Pender Island New Year's Eve Lantern Festival at Magic Lake
The Pender Island New Year's Eve Lantern Festival at Magic Lake has become an annual event. The end of Magic Lake is lined with hundreds of paper bags lit with tea-lights to mark off the area for the spectators to watch from. It starts about 5:30 PM from the ball diamond with a lantern parade and stilt walkers, and winds its way down Schooner to end up at Magic Lake. Here the lantern carriers, stilt-walkers and torch bearers are marshaled in by our Pender Island African Drumming Band. The whole saga of events is too long to list here, but the whole thing ends with a magnificent water ballet of kayaks with multi colored lights, and Father Time leaving on a barge out into Magic Lake. NOW we can light the sparklers everyone was given as they come down to watch this spectacular event. This night has cost you nothing, unless you help out by donating a little change at the Big Pineapple.
If you have ever wanted to do something different for New Year's Eve, this is an event you will talk about for many years. The New Year's Eve Lantern Festival at Magic Lake is just a short walk from Gnome's Hollow Bed and Breakfast.
